Niagara Challenge Series Is No More
After
14 years, the Niagara Challenge Series no longer exists. Although Equine Niagara News
is not sure of the reasoning, we do know it has been replaced by the Niagara Cup Series
with a great deal of changes we hear.
First
off, the NIagara Cup Series will now take place over two days at each
of the four barns hosting the shows. From what we understand here
at Equine Niagara
News, the Saturday show will be for adult classes and the Sunday
show for the children's. This opens the doors for more unique and fun
classes including the possibility of jumper classes.
Secondly, the show will now be hosted by only four barns: Red
Ribbon Stables, Camberwell Riding Stable, Cedar Ridge Riding
Stable and Hunter Haven. The first show is in June. Visit our "horse
show" page for all the dates. The lack of a show
at Avanwhit Stables was quite surprising to hear. Most riders looked
forward to this show as it was usually the first of the season and
kicked off the season on a local level. June seems so far away.
Equine Niagara News
will continue to keep you posted on further updates to the series.

Major Changes Set for Port Colborne
Saddle Club for 2009 Season
PCSC is growing
and growing strong. With the major growth in membership, the club is
going forward with a plan of a one-year trial hosting 2 shows per
month. This unique plan allows for
Western and
English classes to be held on separate days opening the doors for more
classes for each division and a more organized show. The
overall outcome should also get everyone home a little earlier at the
end of the day. The club is hopeful that by adding the English show
dates and the variety of classes being offered, it will open the
doors for younger riders just starting to have a place to show,
while also giving the more experienced riders the opportunity to show
their skills.
Visit www.portcolbornesaddleclubinc.com for all the
details and show dates.

Getting
Ready for Show Season
Every spring begins a flurry of activity for those
preparing for the upcoming show season. Trying to get your horse back
in shape, finding your tack, cleaning it all and finding your show
clothes can all be a little overwhelming each year. And if you happen
to be showing for the first time, it can be a nightmare trying to
figure out what you need, the rules for your horse, your attire and
your tack.
While most lesson barns offer an information meeting each year to let
their students know what is involved in showing, what you need, what
shows will be attended, etc. However not all riders
showing ride with a lesson barn, they simply show
individually.
One local barn has taken some of the guess work out of showing, at
least as far as the English shows are concerned. Vera Bowman at
Briarwood Stables has put together a series of Workshops to
prepare you for the show season. Her next workshop is March 1st, 2009.
Contact Briarwood Stables for more information. vera@briarwoodstables.com.

What happened to Niagara
Horse & Rider? There's been no new issue since
December. It looked like it was starting out to be a good local
magazine, but where did it go?
