The Calendar
of Events is changing rapidly, check back often for
new updates. The Horse
Show Page has been redesigned for easier access to
information.
The classified
section now allows you to post your ads yourself. That is proving
helpful and a great time saver for us.
This site is geared to everything equine in Niagara, so please let us
know of any activities happening that have to do with horses. We are
severely lacking in the area of mini's, driving, barrels, reigning, etc.
Help us grow the site and send in your information.
We hope Equine Niagara News will be
your one-stop resource for everything "equine" in Niagara
Region.
The site's most valuable resource
is the Equine Niagara News Calendar of Events.

· Horse Shows
· Classifieds

From
The Editor

Well, it has been
an exciting three weeks. Yes, I realize only two weeks for you, but since
I was in Mexico the week of the last newsletter, for me it has been
three. There is just so much to tell, so many places to go and so much
information to process, I can't seem to keep on top of it all. The one
thing that keeps me going is all of your comments and gratitude for this
newsletter and the website.
Hopefully I'll
make the website it's own site within the next few months instead of
piggy-backing off my horsedodads site. Before that can happen, I need to
get some advertisers on board. Already we have seen a few of the stables
getting on board with enhanced listings. Horseworld Emporium is
sponsoring our survey for this and the next 2 issues. Make sure you
complete the survey for your chance to win a Tipperary Helmet.
This month we've
introduced the "Ask Us" section for your health, training and
anything else equine-related questions you might have. At this point I am
researching the answers but hope to get qualified individuals on-board to
answer the questions for you instead - and at that, where possible local
people.
As those of you on
facebook know, we maintain an active presence there through the Equine
Niagara News Group page. Please encourage your friends to visit the
website and sign up to receive the newsletter automatically - less
duplication that way. We have also added an Equine Niagara News Fan Page
to facebook. This gives us a greater ability to announce new items
directly on your home page through your feeds. But as with anything, you
need to become a fan of the page or a friend of Saturn Stables to see the
feeds. So do join up, and request to be our friend. I'd request to be all
of your friends, but since there are almost 250 members of the group,
that would take some time. It's simply easier if you request to become my
friend.
Oh and I almost
forgot - for those that tweet - You can find us on twitter under
EquineNiagara for our latest updates.

Employed in the Horse Industry Eager for New Season at Fort Erie
Racetrack
The announcement that Fort Erie Racetrack would indeed open after all
for the 2009 thoroughbred racing season was welcomed with open arms by
all involved in the horse industry, but especially those drawing their
income from the track. With so much indecision about the future of the
track last year and the viability of the economy, the news couldn't
have come at a better time for some. And on March 20th, the
thoroughbreds officially returned to the track with training starting
in earnest a day or two later. Fort Erie Racetrack can house just over
1000 horses and has already received approximately 700 stall
applications. May 2nd is the first race of the 112th season of racing
at Fort Erie. For a complete schedule click here:

Niagara Cup Series Class List
Equine
Niagara News
has finally acquired a copy of the Niagara Cup Series Show Program.
The classes are posted on our site. While much of the show is
similar to the original Niagara Challenge Series schedule, the notable
differences are:
· the shows are being held over 2 days with adults on Saturday, and
children's classes on Sunday.
· the Low Hunter Division replaces the Open Hunter Division from the
Challenge Series
· a Cross Rail Division has also been added on the Sunday for the
children
To our surprise there are no jumper classes. One major difference we noticed
for the new series is, as with so many other organizations, competitors
will be required to become a member of the Niagara Cup Series for
points to count toward year end awards. Membership is $10.00/year and
can be submitted in advance or purchased at the show. For complete program click here.

Misty Lane Tack
Raising Money for Breast Cancer
The
3rd Annual
Silent Auction to raise money for the Juravinski Breast Cancer
Research Dept. is off and running. Don and Jutta Barlow
started this silent auction to raise money for breast cancer in memory
of a good friend, Shirley Bridgman and Jutta's sister Rosemary Ryder.
Don says "100% of the money raised goes to the Juravinski Breast
Cancer Dept." Don and Jutta are able to get fabulous items donated
because of their dedication to the people donating. At the end of the
sale a book is put together that includes the publicity offered to
those donating through various medium's - the benefits to their
generous donations - this also at Misty Lane's expense. Don is greatful
to the businesses that help make this such a successful event.
Currently there are over 62 items offered in the silent
auction. These items include a Mike Weir signed flag; restaurant, oil
change, tire, riding lesson certificates, wine glasses & engraving,
wine baskets, a President's Choice product basket, winter coat, western
saddle pad, pink cooler, winter horse blanket, riding apparel, gloves,
bird feeders, brad nailer/stapler, bosch kitchen appliance,
"Cure" Black and Pink dressage saddle pads, horse
supplements, collectables, toys, a golf membership and more. For more
information or to bid on an item contact Misty Lane at 1-877-874-3616
or better yet, drop in and visit them at 1319 Guyatt Rd, Binbrook, ON
(between Hendershott and Woodburn).

From The Horse's Mouth: _______________________
Niagara Horse & Rider:
The long-awaited third issue of Niagara
Horse & Rider is finally out, albeit it seems in very
limited supply.
In conversations with the Editor, Elie BenDavid, Equine Niagara News
learned the magazine is going through some growing pains, forcing a
second look at the frequency of publication and the selection of a
printer. We're sure that the lengthy delay in publication will not
hinder the growth of the magazine as far as readership is concerned. It
does remain to be seen however, whether the advertisers in the magazine
will have the same positive outlook. We here at Equine Niagara News
also enjoy the magazine and wish Elie every success with the future
growth of the magazine. Just in case you haven't seen the current
issue, Elie has graciously provided us with a link to the electronic
version of the magazine for your perusal. Enjoy!

· "Missing in Action - Who is the
Imposter?"
. In the last issue of Equine Niagara News, we gave you a link to a
story on "TheHorse.com" about "Good Guinness"

story coming out, the imposter was identified as a horse by the name of
"Con Air" an imported from Holland in 2004. Meanwhile the
real "Good Guinness" was found showing in New Jersey under
the name "Kanye". At this point it appears to have been a
shipping error. Go figure!
