From
The Editor

Another two weeks and another issue finally! Albeit a few hours later
arriving than usual. It's been a trying day. Mr. Murphy strikes again!
That being said this
was an interesting issue to put together. So many stories to tell and
information to get. Some I just couldn't get to - like the Lil Bit Ranch
story. That one will have to wait for the next issue again. I tell you, I
think if I divided myself into four I still couldn't get it all done.
But, I'm loving every minute of it. I just can't stand being bored.
You'll notice a few
changes with this issue. Not so much to the newsletter itself, but do
check out the new website. Keep in mind it's in the beginning stages and
really, the only thing that has changed is the home page. Yes, I
registered the site on it's own. So the new home address is equineniagaranews.com. Do
let me know what you think of the layout. All the links to the previous
site still work, but you'll notice things like the forum, chat and a few
others are not yet live. Those are in progess and hopefully live before
the next issue. The blog became live tonight. It's rather boring for a
first blog, nevertheless it's there.
We are starting to
form some interesting alliances and new information is coming my way
constantly now. The funny thing is, I can't believe that the local barns
are so slow in sending in their information for the directory. I hope
everyone realizes that basic directory listings are FREE. So are listings
for events and clinics in the calendar of events. Yes FREE. (Of course
there are advertising options, but they are OPTIONS). This site is fast
becoming the one of the best, if not the best resource for local equine
related news. People not involved in the equine industry yet, but are
looking for lessons, trailrides, camps and more are finding the site and
using it. So get your listings in to me...
For those facebook
junkies, you'll have to rely on the calendar of events on the website for
details and information about upcoming events. Facebook has changed the
way events are posted in the groups, so that it alters the way they are
viewed and perceived, leaving me no choice but to not enter your events
there - please feel free to post them in the links, or discussion boards.
The group and fan page on facebook are there for your information and
reference. Join in, make it active!
Now you can find
Equine Niagara News on Barn Mice as well. An interesting site in itself.
We will be establishing more on this site shortly. Just not enough hours
in the day.
I'm also giving you a
break from completing a survey this issue. Watch for a new survey on May
28th.
As always, we welcome
your comments, stories and suggestions. Keep them coming. Always good to
hear from everyone. Now trotting on to the next issue...

Open House A
Success
3 Gaits
Equestrian Centre
3 Gaits Equestrian Centre held their open house on Saturday, May 3rd
with a very good turn out. The day's events included dressage
demonstrations, breed showing and a grand tour of the bright and warm
facility.
Kathy and Albert Elmers built the facility to specialize in training
and care of performance dressage horses and start a Canadian warm blood
breeding program. Their in-house instructor, Linda Reavley has shown
and trained to Grand Prix level in Canada and the U.S., with experience
working and breaking young horses as well.
The facility offers boarding with 15 very roomy stalls available, large
tack stalls, storage lockers for boarders, a wash bay with heat lamps,
a heated viewing lounge nicer than some apartments and a washroom
complete with shower and laundry facility. The farm is located on 30
acres with six year-round paddocks, and 3 large pastures and an outdoor
sand ring with lights. The indoor arena is 80'x212' with natural light
to compliment the lighting system. The footing is a synthetic dustrfee
riding surface that almost springs back after you walk on it.
The farm is located at 935 Farr Street, Fenwick. Kathy and Albert can
be reached by calling 905-892-5039 for more information. More

For The Love of Horses
It has to be love and
determination that keep Brenda MacArthur and her husband Dave motivated
at Whispering Hearts Horse Rescue. Their farm is a safe-haven for
horses that have been rescued from various circumstances, where they
are nurtured, returned to health and retrained to ultimately find a new
and loving home.
Brenda has been rescuing horses for over 10 years, purchasing her 48
acre farm in Hagersville in 2007. Her and her husband work full time to
support the farm and the 34 horses that call it home, of which 25 of
those are rescues. Once at the farm, Brenda assesses the health, needs
and level of training of each horse. After ensuring the horse's health
is that of what it should be, Brenda and her many volunteers work the
horse providing training and determining its capabilities for future
sale to a new owner. More...

Summer Horse Camps
Moms
and dads are already searching for news ideas for their children for
this summer. While horse camps may not be a new idea, it may be new to
some children. It's a great way to spend a week, learning about horses,
riding and having fun with other children. To start you off for your
quest here are a few places that offer summer camps that we know of:
· Camberwell Stables
· Equus Niagara
· Hidden Creek Stables
· Niagara Equestrian Centre
· Saturn Stables
· Sherwood Farms
Information on some of these camps are available on
our website. We're sure there
are many offering summer horse camps that we have yet
to receive information on.
