Here
we are again. My how time flies. I've been so involved in organizing the
UCEA's Cancer Ride, that absolutely nothing was done for Equine Niagara
News until yesterday -- I started to think about it for the first time.
The event was fabulous
with 64 riders - well - read the story in this issue for more details. So
now that the ride is over and done with I can get back to work,
concentrating on this newsletter and of course my farm, the horses, and
the public trail rides. I have neglected so much because of the work
involved in getting the Cancer Ride to it's end this past Sunday.
This week, I launched
the Equine Niagara News photo album. Here pictures will be posted that we
use in the newsletter, plus some we don't. Don't get your hopes up about
just taking them however, they do come with a small fee. At the moment,
there's not a lot to view - 3 Gaits Equestrian and a few pictures from
the Cancer Ride. Hundreds of pictures for the Cancer Ride will be posted
over the weekend, so check back in to the photo album. I think Krista
captured absolutely everyone that attended - I think!
Last month we launched
the discussion forum at the request of many. So it's there, but only one
brave sole has attempted to converse. Where is everyone? I know out with
your horses. Silly question.
And again, don't get
your hopes up for a new blog - maybe tomorrow morning, but definitely not
tonight. I'll be lucky if this newsletter makes it out before midnight.
Again, we've received
many compliments on the newsletter and the website. Watch for many more
changes in upcoming weeks. And, please let us know of your upcoming
events, shows, etc., send us your club newsletters, flyers or anything
equine related that you think might be useful for the newsletter.
The more involved everyone
is, the more everyone can enjoy and keep informed.
I'll look forward to
hearing from you!
Until next time, ride
on!
Debi
Katsmar.

A
64 Horse Trail Ride for Breast Cancer Raises Over $10,000

June
7, 2009 couldn't have been a better day for the Upper Canada Equestrian
Association's (UCEA) Annual Nicky Aitken Memorial Trail Ride for Breast
Cancer. Not too hot, not too cold, a few drops of rain in the
morning. Just enough to make everyone look to the sky to see what was
coming next. And nothing more came, except sunshine and a few clouds
here and there.
The event was held at Henry of Pelham Family Estate Winery in St.
Catharines with the ride heading out into the Shorthills Provinical
Park for 2 hours and back to the winery for the after-festivities. The
event was extremely well organized for the amount of horses in
attendance with no one getting lost on the ride and all arriving back
safe and sound.
When all was said and done, 64 riders participated in the ride raising
a whopping $10,560.34 for Breast Cancer Prevention and Community
Research. Organizers had raised a phenomenal amount of prizes to be won
by participants with three major prizes being offered for the most
money raised for this cause. Ron Bell won the Western Show Saddle
sponsored by Port Pontiac Buick GMC and Horseworld with pledges totally
$2215, Debi Katsmar $2205 in pledges got her the 3-day cattle drive in
Quesnal, BC next spring offered by Blackwater Spruce Ranch, and Loretta
Valstar received the bareback saddle pad from Reign Equestrian and
Athletics for third place. Read
more ...
Photos
(here are a few photos from the ride - all photos taken by Krista
Ellens-Mills will be available by the end of the weekend.
