Safety Vests Required by June 1st, 2009 for Drivers
Last year the Ontario Racing Commission (ORC) introduced a ruling making it mandatory that all drivers programmed to race where a safety vest as of November 1st, 2008. This ruling had been extended by a month due to a shortage of supply for vests at tack shops across the province.
The next phase of this rule change takes place June 1st, 2009 making it mandatory for “all persons driving a horse on the grounds of any facility licensed by the ORC” to wear a safety vest. Safety has always been a concern of the ORC. This ruling gives a little more in the way of protection for the drivers.
