03.26.09 Horse Empowerment Clinic (An Expression of Interest)
Are you interested in becoming a better handler and more confident rider, while also teaching your horse how to be calm and handle various situations? If so, Ron Derksen is considering hosting a 2 1/2 day clinic entitled "Horse Empowerment". The clinic will be open to riders that can walk and trot on a horse comfortably. Participants will learn ground handling skills, how to work as a team in troop maneuvers and experience a dynamic obstacle course utilizing natural horsemanship and police training techniques. The course will ultimately give riders more confidence in handling spooks and nuisances often encountered out on the trails. No date has been set for the clinic as of yet. For those that do not know Ron Derksen, he is one of our local mounted police officers. Ron is also a certified Mounted Police Instructor,  and is certified at Level 3 in the Parelli Natural Horsemanship program.  He has taught at the Mobile Alabama Mardi Gras School for Mounted Police in 2008 and very experienced at training horses and riders to be calm and confident.
